College towns are a natural magnet for the music scene. Florida State University, Florida A & M University and Tallahassee Community College ensure a vigorous music scene. The Tennessee Street “Strip” is the college crowd music district. Floyd’s Music Store features local and national rock bands and a mosh pit that is always packed. Bullwinkle’s Saloon, the Thirsty Moose Club, Chubby’s and Bell Bottoms tempt the college crowd to abandon the books for the dance floor. The Capitol crowd gravitates toward the music in downtown Tallahassee. Perhaps the most “unique” Tallahassee music venue, the Bradford Blues Club is an authentic “juke joint” surrounded by corn fields and moss-covered oaks. Don’t jump to conclusions by the location. The club hosts an impressive array of well-known Blues acts. More than 50 portraits paper the walls and tabletops attesting to the “who’s who” in the Bradford Blues entertainment line-up.
Tallahassee also has an active classical music scene. The Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center features top-name tours. The Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra has a track record of over 25 years of sold-out performances. The Tallahassee Bach Parley has been bringing Bach to the area since 1981.
